Changing consumption and production patterns is one of the key conditions for a successful transition to a green economy. However, a change in the lifestyle of the wider society towards environmental sustainability is only possible with appropriate measures in the field of education, focusing not only on the education of young people, but also on the education of the working population.

The line ministries, knowledge institutions and competence centers will prepare renewed educational programs, with an emphasis on acquiring skills, not just knowledge. Education-related processes will include content related to the green economy, special attention will be paid to education for work in so-called green jobs (eg in the field of waste recycling, water management, forest-timber chain, renewable energy sources, production and processing food). Knowledge and skills will be built into the concept of lifelong learning.

The transition to a green economy also requires a number of changes in the way educational activities are carried out. These will include, among other things, the greening of educational infrastructure by reducing the environmental impact and increasing material and energy efficiency, as well as the introduction of a sustainable way of life and the operation of educational institutions.

It is important to develop new knowledge and competencies according to the needs of the economy. Among them is also the competence for sustainable development, which takes into account the concept of sustainable development from the point of view of resource management.
