Transport is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions, it also contributes to poorer air quality and higher noise levels in cities, thus negatively affecting the health of the population. The Transport Development Strategy in the Republic of Slovenia emphasizes the development of railway infrastructure and railway transport and the development of public passenger transport. This will make it possible to improve transport links and reduce personal transport in favor of increasing footpaths, cycling and public passenger transport.

Public passenger transport represents one of the basic segments of the transport offer and, due to the public interest, is classified as a public good. As part of the Integrated Passenger Transport project, a single electronic ticket will be introduced, and a process of harmonizing public transport systems will be carried out in order to increase the standard of accessibility and better supply.

Sustainable mobility measures are important for reducing emissions from transport in urban areas:

  • Arrangement of safe access to public transport stations and stops, arrangement of stands and canopies for bicycle parking, P + R system, public transport stops, sidewalks, bicycle paths. These investments are envisaged to a lesser extent to fill gaps in existing infrastructure networks for sustainable urban mobility.
  • In addition to the appropriate infrastructural conditions for sustainable mobility, appropriate mobility management measures will be implemented, such as:
  • Sustainable parking policy measures, which mean a comprehensive approach at the level of parking in a city, which means that by limiting parking in city centers, financial policy of more expensive parking in centers and cheaper parking on the outskirts of cities and P + R, we manage traffic in cities .
  • Preparation of mobility plans: different institutions, depending on the specifics of the space in which they are located, travel habits of employees and the possibilities of sustainable arrival at work and school, create their own mobility plan and encourage changes in travel habits among employees.
  • Restriction of traffic in city cores for personal traffic: the city determines the restriction of the entry of personal vehicles into the wider or narrower traffic center on the basis of various criteria, such as e.g. vehicle emission standards (environmental zones) or closures of certain areas.ΕΎ
  • Green urban logistics: cities will determine the policy in the field of delivery of goods, which will determine the compliance of delivery vehicles with environmental standards, delivery time windows and will promote alternative solutions according to the specifics of space in urban centers.
  • Use of modern technologies for effective mobility management: many mechanisms are available, such as real-time monitoring of vehicles with displays at public transport stops, information portals for passengers with the possibility of using mobile phones, etc.
  • Educational awareness-raising activities on sustainable mobility will be targeted at a variety of target groups, from kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, the student population to adult car drivers and a variety of professionals.
